Water damage clean up... What you can do and what a should be left to the professionals.

Time is of the essence. Call us immediately!
water cleanup

Mold can start in 48 hours and toxins can become introduced to the water in hours.

Water will find its way into areas that you may not suspect have moisture in them.
The only way to make sure the building has been completely dried out and therefore no longer a breeding ground for mold, is by the experience of a trained Professional like our team. We will use moisture detection equipment to find the hidden cavities, and surfaces where water has penetrated.

Water can cause shrinkage, spliting, warping, discoloration and delamination of floors, walls and other surfaces.
Areas that are not moisture free and closed back up will allow mold to regrow and may even make the space toxic again. this will cause you to have to redo the area making it even more costly, that is why you should have an expert like us do this portion of remediation. ( see more information in our mold removal pages.)

The first 48

  • First;
    Make sure the area is safe to enter : check for electrical hazards and structural damage, and use proper protective gear like boots, gloves and respirators.
    We cannot emphasise this enough!
    If you are not sure, don't enter the area.
  • Second;
    if area is safe to enter: Ventilate affected areas to prevent mold growth. If weather allows,place fans in windows, and keep air circulating in the affected area. close off any unaffected areas to prevent cross contamination.
  • Third;
    Remove water saturated items like area rugs, paper products, books, magazines, clothing, mattresses, and bedding, any items made from particle board.
  • Fourth;
    Using a wet dry vacuum, sponge mops, or towels, remove as much water as possible. Our professionals will bring special suction mats and other specialized equipment to draw the water out of the space. Prior to opening up the walls to remove saturated sheetrock, insulation and other materials, we will use powerful fans and dehumidifiers to dry the area.

Expose the saturated areas.

  • Flooring.
    Carpet: may be able to be saved but it may not be worth it if they are older. Proper drying of these take a lot of time and will need to be restretched and may not fit properly depending on the material they are made of, the pad normally is discarded as it acts as a sponge.

    Hardwood flooring requires specialized equipment, and may warp regardless of what is done if the water has saturated the sub floor. It will depend on the type of flooring, and how long it was wet to decide if it can be saved.
  • Walls;
    Expose walls at least a foot higher than the water level.
    Sheet rock, insulation, need to be removed. Plywood and other building materials need to be dried thoroughly before covering back up.
  • Concealed areas and pockets of saturation and cavities need to discovered and opened up. Investigate gaps under mechanical spaces like boiler and furnaces, under cabinets and furniture, and in crawl spaces. We use specialized equipment to discover hidden moisture.
  • We use specialized equipment to discover hidden areas of moisture and dry them completely.

Prior to Reconstruction.

  • Before anything is put back like it never happened, the following needs to be complete.
  • Cleaning and decontamination.
    Durable, non-porous or semi-porous materials, such as studs and joists, hardwood flooring and vinyl products, can be cleaned with common cleaning products or specialized products with detergents. During cleaning, take care to protect areas that are unaffected by the water or mold. After a thorough cleaning of salvageable materials, a disinfectant solution may need to be applied in case of harmful bacteria from sewage, river water debris or even standing water that has gone bad.
    Our water restoration and mold remediation and indoor environmental professionals can help you decide what is best for your situation. Once we have cleaned the wet materials, we will conduct another round of cleaning using a HEPA-filter vacuum to remove allergens, fine dust and spores.
  • Before we reconstruct the affected areas we will confirm the area is completely dry.
    In order to prevent dry rot and structural damage, it’s important not to reconstruct or cover wood and other wet materials until the moisture content has been adequately reduced.
  • Reconstruction.
    see our Restoration of water damage page.
